Top Things you need to know to Prepare for Coming to Tahoe in the Winter
When we get big snow storms at Tahoe, they can last for a few days and we get feet of snow. Here are the Top Ten Things you need to know. Before you come to Tahoe
A great App for your smart phone is Road Conditions Pro. I use it and it has live cams of Interstate-80 and Highway-50. Live cams are the best way to know what's really going on!
Check your tires before you come to Tahoe.
- Buy a generator! Power outages can be common with strong winter storms. Generators can generally be purchased for about $500 and can be installed by an electrician for around $200.
- Check your head lights.
- Check your chains.
- Bring extra food and water in the car. It's also a good idea to pack some blankets, just in case. When the power goes out and you're at Tahoe, I recommend you be prepared. Here is a list of things you can do when the power goes out.
- Dress in your snow clothes and go out side. Get exersice by either shoveling snow or going for a walk.
- Have books, games, playing cards or other fun things around to keep you busy.
- Flash Lights, battery lanterns, fire starter for the wood stove of fireplace
- Have Proper snow boots and warm socks, NO COTTON SOCKS
- Plenty of mittens and gloves as the first set usually gets wet.
- If the road conditions are "Chains with 4 wheel drive" DON'T GO DRIVING AROUND. You'll most likely get stuck, get in an accident, cause an accident or get stuck in traffic. Stay at your cabin. It's much safer for you and others that way.
